New Year's Eve Dinner
Here are a few quick shots from tonight's dinner. The appetizer was raw scallops, salmon and artichoke - followed by Foie Gras. First course was perch. Second was Vinson and pumpkin. Dessert was chocolate cake. Of course, champagne and beer.
Happy New Year 2011
Happy New Year from Paris. The 'gang' celebrated without incident. We ran in the New Year aboard the Paris Metro as we work our way from the Marais back to the Latin Quarter. The streets are alive with people. A few are more cheerful than they should be thanks to some good cheer.
A couple of pictures from tonight's restaurant. It was pretty good. We debated recommending it to friends. The menu was limited for the New Year. The venison and perch were both delicious. The atmosphere was interesting and maybe even a little strange. Our waiter clearly was denied the night off and still should have just stayed home in spite of his boss' demands.

Countdown 2010
You would be hard pressed to find a better city to experience New Year's Eve than Paris. It is one of my favorite places to visit. Tonight - the 'gang' (a good description for our small group of traveling companions) will bring in the New Year at Derriere restaurant. Yes - Derriere. We are certain to experience plenty of butt jokes for the upcoming 2011 year. My main hope is everyone will behave and not make asses of themselves (including me).
What better way to bring in the New Year than with loved ones, best friends and family? All -- in one of the best cities in the World.

Musee Marmottan
Things continue to change in Paris. One good change has been the no smoking policy in hotels and restaurants. One bad change has been more and more restrictions regarding photography. Too many foolish guests don't turn off those annoying (and damaging flashes) so more museums are banning all cameras. Also the age of digital photography makes sharing copies of prize master pieces just too easy for most curators.
Musee Marmottan is one of museum to change its policy since our last visit several years ago. For the visitor - the absence of the lighting-like flash photography is a welcome loss.

Today - Musee Jacquemart-Andre is located on the busy Blvd Haussmann on the right side of the river Seine. Still - it doesn't take much imagination to visualize the horse drawn carriages bringing guests to parties at this couple's home.
If you are looking for a nice spot for lunch - the museum cafe is a nice treat. It fills up quickly - so arrive early like us or expect a wait.

Jacquemart-Andre Private Collection
Well worth the time it takes to tour the private collection at this museum. The couple traveled the World to collect art and objects that are housed here. The architecture is pretty neat also - including vanishing walls to make larger spaces for parties.
Day Two - Paris 2010

The 'gang' seemed to have survived both the travels to and the first day in Paris. We arrived a little later than our mid-morning CDG arrival. Barbara was so pleased to escape the east coast foul weather that she did not mind the long wait for us at the airport.
Bad weather was not to be outdone with repairs to the RER B train from the airport. The train station at nearest our terminal was closed for repairs - meaning we had to transfer to another terminal before traveling to our hotel. A bit of surprise - and certain to make our return more challenging. Oh well - that is a week away.
Our Latin Quarter home has undergone a renovation and updating. The biggest change is new bathrooms. Our room has lost its second window - a feature I adored for extra ventilation - to cool down those warm rooms. Overall - the renovation has not done much to improve the property -- other than raise rates a bit. That said - the D'Albe continues to be our favorite spot to rest after a full day of exploring Paris.
This morning brought a surprise of warmer weather although now - the temperatures have dropped drastically. I may need to pull out my 'long-johns' before venturing out tomorrow. Everyone started the day fairly rested in spite of the fact that most did not sleep through the night.
We are learning to make two changes to travel blogging - one is for everyone to blog rather than a single author and two is the use of a mobile Mifi equipped with a Orange SIM card. Bear with us - by the end of this trip we will have our new 'group' travel blogging down to an art form.

Day Two - Cancun 2010
Beautiful day in Mexico. The beaches have been fully restored to pre-hurricane Wilma conditions. They are simply wonderful. What a nice treat to see them.

Day One - Cancun 2010
We always enjoy a get-a-away to Cancun. Although the old village has changed enormously to an more Americanized city. Still it is a great escape from the rush at home and work ... and of course, seeing old friends makes for a special treat.

Day Four - Chester Beatty Library
Well - we tired twice and missed the Library both times! Oh well - it was still a pleasant walk in the gardens on a sunny Dublin day.

A short walk from our hotel is the RMA Gallery. What a treat! The contemporary exhibits of Irish native artist was very good.

Who knew time could pass so quickly when you are enjoying yourself. Today is another warm (60ish) and sunny day in Dublin. We had been warned that no one travels to Dublin for the weather. But these few days have been a real treat. We stopped by Iveagh Gardens on our way into town.
