Finding a dining spot along the coast on the May 1 holiday can be a challenge. Several places were full with long waits as locals enjoyed their time with friends and family. Our guide Fililpe took us to O Purcaro restaurant off the N247 (http://www.restauranteopucaro.pt). The grilled cod fish was delicious. A perfect day for to drink a beer under the pine trees and relax. Nice.

Lisbon - Day 6, Portugal Coast

The Palace of Pena (www.parquesdesintra.pt) is from the 19th century and a fascinating combination of whimsical buildings that will remind you of Disneyland. It was constructed by Don Fernando II and Dona Maria II (Queen of Portugal).

Lisbon - Day 6, Sintra
Today is May 1 and a holiday in Portugal so we are off to the touristy town of Sintra located west of Lisbon towards the coast. Sintra is a popular place so make plans to arrive early to beat some of the crowds. We started our day with a visit to the National Palace of Sintra. Despite the tour groups and organized guides - we enjoyed visiting the small rooms of the palace and seeing some of the best ceramic tiles from Portugal.
