Day Two - John Gabriel Borkman
We lucked into the Dublin Theatre Festival running during our trip. An enjoyable way to enjoy the city and many of its locals. We saw Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan in John Gabriel Borkman by Frank McGuiness. It was shown at the Abbey Theatre - Ireland's national theatre. Interesting drama with a few funny bits thrown in to keep the otherwise dark play from causing too many suicides by the patrons. While every seat in the house is good (as it is a small play house) ours at K30 and K31 were perfect. For those long legged patrons - K27 doesn't have a seat in front of it. We jealously admired its occupant while we hugged our knees.

Day Two - Book of Kells
The Book of Kells is an amazing manuscript. We were fortunate to visit without the crowds and could enjoy a close-up review without being rushed away. Trinity College holds a prominent place in Dublin. It is a lively place for the students.

Day Two - National Museum Arhaeology
For everything you would like to know about Hoards, Vikings, and Bogs - then the National Museum Of Ireland - Archaeology is the place. Oh - add a sprinkle of Pharaohs too. This is a pleasant bite-size museum to enjoy a few hours and learn something new. BTW - the cafe is charming and dishes up a good (and big) lunch for an affordable price.

Day One - Dublin Transportation
It is nice to see that Dublin's 'green' goes beyond shamrocks and green landscape. Light rail, pedestrian friendly, and public bike rentals make the town easy to tour.

Day One - St. Stephen's Green
Dublin has wonderful public green spaces. St. Stephen's Green was only a few blocks from the Merrion Hotel. Most amazing was how quickly you could forget (and not hear) the busy city streets. Of course, Phoenix Park is the mammoth of all public parks.

Day One - Dublin Sights
Beautiful day in Dublin. Sunny blues skies in Ireland today.
Since we were tired we dropped a few extra Euros for tour bus ride around the city while we regained our land-legs. The first day is always the toughest as you fight off jet-lag.

Dublin Home - Merrion Hotel
Arriving our hotel was easy using the Air Coach (7 Euros) - our stop was 1 block away from the Hotel Merrion in Dublin. The Hotel is terrific with every amenity you could want. Hard choice - see the sights or stay in the room!

Day One - Dublin
We arrived safely and on time (8:30 am) in Dublin. Our processing at Dublin Airport went smoothly and our suitcase was waiting on us. The ride over from Chicago was on a small 757 AA plane. Tight and tough to sleep. We caught the Air Coach for 7 Euros from the airport to the Merrion Hotel.

A Place to Prepare
So I have chosen the island of Procida, Italy for my escape in preparing for my 50th birthday. I plan to take a couple of week before the big day to relax and reflect. This looks like the perfect spot.

Flowering Hosta
August in Texas is a tough time for gardening. When temperatures stay above 100 degrees day after day - water doesn't make much sense. Remarkable as it seems - my hostas seem to love the heat and are blooming.
