Paris 2013 - Day Six - Amazing

It is tough to imagine a better way to enjoy the new Islamic Wing of the Louvre - but let me give you a tip - hire a docent from our friends at Context Travel. Seriously. You will write to thank me for the suggestion.

Let's start with a quick overview of the new wing. It is the latest and eighth section of the Louvre. The architecture and museumology (a new term of exhibits) is fantastic. It occupies a previously vacant court yard off the Denon Wing along the Seine River. The exhibition begins on the ground floor and recesses to the lower ground floor. Below it all - is another floor which is closed off to visitors.

The structure has been added within the Louvre and is an accomplishment. As if that weren't enough - the collection is both eye-popping and jaw-dropping. It covers Islamic contributions to art and objects from 622 to 1924. You cannot believe the collection and will walk away with a better understanding of this Empire's impact on decorative arts from glass, ceramic, rugs, wood carving and more.

Enjoy - and put this Wing on you list of must sees in Paris.
