West of central Lisbon lies Belem - which is known for it's port. It is also home to the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Belem or Monastery of Jeronimos. It was commissioned by King Manuel I and is one of the best examples of Manueline architecture. The lines can be long so arrive early. One tip: you can buy tickets at the National Archaeology museum and bypass the long lines.
