Hong Kong - Day Two Hung Shing Temple

This small temple to Hung Sing was constructed before 1847 and located at 129-131Queen's Road East, Wan Chai. Hung Sing was a government official in the Tang Dynasty who promoted astronomy, geography and mathematics and created an observatory that helped fishermen and traders. When this temple was constructed it originally sat on the city's waterfront. Rich merchants could watch their ships being unloaded and sailors could make offerings at the Hung Shing Temple. Today, fill has expanded the island and Queen's Road is no longer waterfront property.
