Italy - Day Five

It is official - I love Isola di Procida.

It is difficult to imagine how this sleepy little island has escaped the same popularity fate as Capri, Positano and Amalfi. Granted there does not seem to be any 5-Star resorts designed by famous Hoteliers - and a general desire by the locals to keep this gem out of the limelight as far as tourism.

It is going to take a lot of convincing to get me to explore the other islands in this area. Procida is peaceful, friendly and home now. It took us four days to discover pretty much all of the streets and alleyways on the island - and really know the 'lay of the land' (although - truthfully we continue to be surprised when we amble down an unfamiliar path only to recognize the endpoint).

Today's main activity revolved around preparing for store and market closures on Sunday and the forecast of rain on Monday. These events require planning and adjustment.

Our tiny refrigerator started to make sense only a few days ago. Why would anyone stock-up on items when walking to the market each afternoon is an obligatory daily activity? After all it is the 'Italian Way' to take time and visit along the way, at the shop and on the way home each day.

Now - just as we got comfortable - the rules changed. Yes, truly the 'Italian Way' and we are learning.

After a quick trip to the market (read: markets as we have different ones: one for cheese, one for vegetables, and one for diet coke), the afternoon was free for leisure and sun at the beach.

The nearby beach was perfect today with plenty of space to spread out and nice sun until about 4 pm. My lemon yellow beach towel was easy to find. The season is still early so the beaches are not packed - although the cove was full of boats. A interesting water taxi ran back and forth from the moored boats and the beach restaurant. Post script: black sand is hot - thankfully the water was cool.

Yes. Isola di Procida is a wonderful place. The 'Italian Way' continues to seep in but I am not so gullible to believe that I have it figured out.
