The Church of Santa Maria della Pieta and St. John the Baptist is the first church one sees when visiting Isola di Procida. The back of the church faces the main city port where visitors arrive by ferry or hydrofoil.
Sailors founded the church in 1616 and in 1760 the building was expanded.
Our daily pilgrimage to this church has been met with sealed wooden doors. We will keep trying. For now - an outside view will have to do.
