Another sun filled day on the Isola di Procida.
Today we return to the east side of the island to revisit in S. Giacomo and the Marina di Sancio Cattolico.
Most of the shops close from 1 to 5 pm each afternoon - and it seems none of the business owner’s watches are set to the same time. We spend a fair amount of time trying to figure out the opening and closing hours for different stores. The current score: business owners – 10; guests – 0.
Scores don’t matter when you are on vacation. Despite the lost opportunities as we encountered locked doors or dark storefronts - we did score an absolute win by finding the best lemon macaroons in the world.
Procida is known for its native lemons. They are huge and only slightly smaller than grapefruit. Limoncello di Prodica is made here.
We finally gave up and asked a shop owner to help us find the Post Office – only to discover Uff. Postale label on our map was a simple drop box in the town square. Oh the “Italian Way.”
We took to the Punta del Pioppeto and the Faro, Cala del Pozzo Vecchio (the beach made popular in the movie Il Postino), and the Cimitero. Yes – we visited the local cemetery- which by-the-way was incredibly interesting. Nearly 10,000 people have lived on Isla di Procida for a very long time - the cemetery is filled with family mausoleums and a fascinating glimpse into the people who make up this place.
Equipped our newly purchased yellow and orange beach towels – we have lazy plans for the weekend.
