St. Denis
St. Denis was beheaded by the Romans in Montmartre near their Temple to Mars. Rumored to have wandered headless for a few miles - his final resting place is here. The Church grew and grew. Until finally becoming the final resting place for most of France's Kings and Queens. Most of its treasures were stolen. Most of its history remains intact. It is also recognized as the birthplace of Gothic architecture.
