Lisbon - Day 5, Arraiolos Castle

Our guide Filipe Durate from A Friend in Portugal (http://www.afriendinportugal.com/) surprised us by visiting the castle and Church of Salvador in Arraiolos in the Evora district.

Lisbon, Day 5 - Cork

Portugal is known for its cork. The tree bark is removed every 12 years to make cork products. Traditionally most of the raw cork was shipped to other countries for production of various good. Today, you can find many Portuguese made cork products from hats to coasters.

Lisbon - Day 5, Modern Evora

Evora boasts some nice contemporary art exhibits as well as ancient artifacts in the collection. Both are well worth your time. The Eugenio Alameda Foundation sponsors local events in the city (http://www.fundacaoeugeniodealmeida.pt).

Lisbon - Day 5, Evora streets

Evora is an enjoyable town. I could spend more time here and perhaps a few days on my next trip. The college adds a youthful vibe to the town. Still - it's a sleepy place. Oh - did I mention that the medieval town is also home to an ancient Roma Forum? Interesting place to explore.

Lisbon - Day 5, Catedral Evora

This church began in 1186 and was completed in 1250 as cathedral of Santa Maria.
