Vienna - Day Five Pizzeria Verdi

Another full day touring the city sights and having fun. The rain kept us close to our home at Rathaus Wien & Design hotel. Pizzeria Verdi is located across the street from the hotel. An easy spot to enjoy pizza on our last night in Vienna.

Vienna - Day Five Various Shots

I can hardly believe our trip to Vienna is coming to an end. We had a terrific time in the city and plenty of new memories. Here are some random photos from our trip. Enjoy.

Vienna - Day Five Restaurant Figlmueller

Restaurant Figlmueller is probably the most famous schnitzel restaurant in Vienna. It is a fun experience even if the schnitzel was not my favorite in town (http://www.figlmueller.at/en/).

Vienna - Day Five Imperial Treasury

The most important treasury in the world is reason indeed to be amazed: Here, in the oldest part of the Imperial Palace (13th century), you find not only the Emperor’s Crown of the Holy Roman Empire (circa 962) and the Austrian Emperor’s Crown (1602), but also the Burgundian Treasure from the fifteenth century and the Treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece. This is home to the fascinating treasures from the possessions of the Habsburgs and you can easily spend hours looking at the collection.

Vienna - Day Five Spanish Riding School

The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is well worth a visit. The tickets are a bit pricey but the audience is limited. We really enjoyed the 80 minute show by the Lipizzaner stallions and their riders.

The school is the only institution in the world which has practiced for nearly 450 years and continues to cultivate classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the haute école.

The objective of classical equitation is to study the way the horse naturally moves and to cultivate the highest levels of haute école elegance the horse is capable of through systematic training. The result creates an unparalleled harmony between rider and horse, as only Vienna's Spanish Riding School achieves. These guys and gals are good, not to mention the horses!

Vienna - Day Four Mexican food - Yes, Mexican food

Okay - everyone from home thinks that we are crazy for trying Mexican food in Europe. Tonight we were exhausted from our sightseeing adventures and decided to try the always packed Mexican restaurant across from our hotel Rathaus Wien & Design in Vienna. I am pleased to report this place is good - yes, even by Texas standards. If you are in Vienna and get a Mexican food craving - try Taqueria Los Mexikas - it is worth a visit.

Vienna - Day Four Frescoes

The Wien Museum has the key to some of the most precious treasures in the city. A work of great rarity and value are the Neidhart Frescoes, the oldest secular mural paintings in Vienna.

Commissioned by the rich merchant Michael Menschein, they show scenes from the life and work of the minne singer Neidhart von Reuental (circa 1180 to 1240) – a visual trip through the daily life and festive culture of the Middle Ages. I loved seeing these old paintings and think they are one of the most overlooked treasures in Vienna.

Vienna - Day Four Cafe DO-AN

Cafe DO-AN is located within at Naschmrkt (read: Market). The area has plenty of local traders and some interesting products. It was rainy today so we didn't spend much time rummaging the stalls.

Vienna - Day Four Goodbye Adrienn

Time to wrap up our time with our private tour guide Adrienn in Vienna. We couldn't have efficiently seen all the sights on our wish list. I highly recommend hiring local guides to show you around Vienna and Adrienn is the best.

Otto Wagner Pavillon Kalsplatz - terrific stations for the metro system
