Vienna - Day Two Touring with Adrienn

We began our first full day in Vienna under the care of Adrienn Barteck-Rhomberg our private guide in the city (www.experience-vienna.at). Adrienn and I have been exchanging ideas and itineraries for weeks. I found her via Rick Steve's latest travel guide for Vienna. She is a native of Vienna and well versed in the history and locations. I highly recommend hiring local experts when traveling to new places and in Vienna you cannot go wrong with Adrienn.

It is an early day for us. Adrienn collected us at Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design promptly at 8 am. We have a full 1/2 day walking tour of the First District and plenty of sights to discover in the city center.

Vienna is home to over 300 palaces built during the city's golden years. These are grand homes of the elite. The Ring is filled with grand buildings (Parliament, City Hall, Museums and more) constructed on the green space near the old city walls.

Typical palace (residence) in Vienna located along the Ring (boulevard). The elite were provided an incentive to complete construction within 5 years of 20 years free taxes.

Maria Theresa (Mother-in-law of Europe) - Mother of 16 children (yes, 11 daughters) who guaranteed to expand her empire through marriages

Habsburg empire was gigantic and the gold spheres represent the sun never setting on their domain

Winter Hofburg Palace - this is the newest wing of the sprawling compound located in the Old Town

Museums were constructed along the Ring as part of the city plans - both the Art and Natural History Museums are grand structures and designed to house impressive collections.
