Vienna - Day Four Frescoes

The Wien Museum has the key to some of the most precious treasures in the city. A work of great rarity and value are the Neidhart Frescoes, the oldest secular mural paintings in Vienna.

Commissioned by the rich merchant Michael Menschein, they show scenes from the life and work of the minne singer Neidhart von Reuental (circa 1180 to 1240) – a visual trip through the daily life and festive culture of the Middle Ages. I loved seeing these old paintings and think they are one of the most overlooked treasures in Vienna.
