Vienna - Day Three Church of the Minor Friars

There are lots of stories that make this the Augustinian Friars Church an interesting place to visit. Most focus on the 1854 wedding of Emperor Franz Joseph and his bride Sisi - who everyone in Austria seems to adore. Another fascinating story involves the Last Supper mosaic - yep, these are tiles not a painting. It was reportedly commissioned by Napoleon who planned to remove the original fresco in Italy and replace it with this mosaic copy. A devious plan to appease the locals. It wasn't finished in time. The mosaic was purchased later and placed here because the Church was the only place with a large enough space for it. I hope its true - because this story is the best!
