Barcelona - Day One

We arrived safely in Barcelona around 10:30 am on Friday - yes, 24 hours after leaving Dallas. The Barcelona airport is very nice and today - empty.

From the airport, we decided to catch the Aerobus for 5€ each and a 30 minute ride into the city center and the University area. The trip was an easy connection from downstairs at the airport and 3 stops to our drop off.

The weather today was sunny and pretty warm so we decided to tour Park Guell. Gaudi's patron, Eusebi Guell, planned a suburban "city." His property was high above Barcelona, northwest and some distance from the city at that time. More than 60 housing plots were allocated although only two homes were built on the property. The project was radical for its time and, as a real estate project, was a failure. The Barcelona City Council bought the property in 1922 and in the following year converted it to a municipal park.
