Paris - Day One - Rush, Rush, Rush

Lesson to self - Allow time for delays on your arrival date in Paris. After a 4 hour delay in leaving the USA for Paris our ample buffer time to settle in and get to the Musee Luxembourg was completely shot. Not to mention - we need to go by the local FNAC store to pick up the exhibition tickets for our time in France. Oh well, no sense in worrying about it now. A friendly smile and shrugging of shoulders (not to mention sad eyes) are our best defense to explain our tardiness to otherwise less than caring museum staff.
The exhibition in the Musee du Luxembourg, The Circle of Modern Art of avant-garde art in Le Havre, closes on January 6. The town of Le Havre was established as the new port of Paris in 1517. The opening of the Paris-Le Havre railway in 1847 and the arrival of tourist helped open the museum in 1845. At the end of the 19th century a new generation of collectors appeared who especially appreciated Impressionism an modern art, particularly Fauvism. Boudin, Courbet, Troyon, Gudin, Isabey, Pissarro, Delacroix, Monet all traveled and painted here. Olivier Senn (1864 - 1959) married into the dynasty of cotton importers and began a wonderful collection donated by his granddaughter to Musee d'Art moderne Andre Malraux at Le Havre.
