Seoul - Day 4 Namdaemun Market

Namdaemun Traditional Market is one of the oldest continually running markets in South Korea, and one of the largest retail markets in Seoul. The Namdaemun Traditional Market in Seoul is located in the center of the modern Korean capital. However, it is named for the ancient city’s “Great Southern Gate,” Sungnyemun , whose informal name is Namdaemun.  The streets in which the market is located were built in a time when cars were not prevalent, so the market itself is not accessible by car. The main methods of transporting goods into and out of the market are by motorcycle and hand-drawn carts. So be careful not to be run over during your visit. Today was a holiday in Korea - so the place was packed with locals. It occupies many city blocks and each is defined by the items being sold (clothes, luggage, watches, cameras, jewelry, eye glasses).  There is also an underground area which doubles the size of the market. It is easy to spend hours here.
