Day Two - Budapest - Memento Park

Memento Park is located about 30 minutes outside of the Budapest city center. We decided to make use of our car and driver to visit this interesting sight. Luckily, we had our local tour guide Andrea to talk to us about the symbolism of this collection of Soviet monuments from Budapest. This is a private collection - saved and displayed by a local collector. In some ways - it was a fortunate decision to preserve this piece of history. Without knowing it - the emotion one feels in strolling this random field of sculptures is confusing and impossible to figure out without an insider. The message is clear. Communism offered many promises but delivered little unless you had inside connections.

If you come to Budapest - visit this spot and bring along a local guide. It makes for a rewarding experience.
