Day 3 Oslo - Flåm Railway

After about 5 1/2 hours we finally reached our transfer spot for the Flåm Railway. On the 20 kilometer long train journey you'll experience some of the wildest and grandest Norwegian nature there is. In Myrdal mountain station, 866 meters above sea level, the Flam Railway meets the Bergen Railway for further travel towards Oslo or Bergen. Tour through the spectacular Flamsdalen valley. Between thousand meter high mountains Flamsbana starts the journey to the mountain tops. The train leaves the blue Aurlandsfjord and the mild, lush costal climate.  The impressive Rjoandefossen waterfall crashes down a 140 meter drop on the side of the mountain.  The Flam Railway crosses the valley and river three times.

The Kjosfossen waterfall, located in Aurland municipality in Sogn og Fjordane conuty, is legendary in Norway. A trip on the Flåmsbana Railway takes you right past the waterfall. In 1951, a stopping place for the railway was built near the waterfall to give train passengers an opportunity to see it up close!
